Ammonia


General
  Clinical Use: To detect elevated levels of ammonia in the blood, to evaluate changes in consciousness, or to help diagnose hepatic encephalopathy and Reye's syndrome.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
This test may be eligible for Rule 3 exemption if indicated.

  Handling Instructions (to laboratory): Transport sample on ice.
Deliver sample to laboratory as soon as possible.
Send separated sample frozen on dry ice.

  Minimum Collection Volume:
  Collection Instructions: Collect sample on ice.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 3 hours of collection, it must be centrifuged, separated and frozen.

  Minimum Assay Volume: 100uL
  Stability: 3 hours chilled (separated); 3 weeks frozen
