General
Clinical Use: Haptoglobin is an acute phase protein that binds haemoglobin irreversibly. Its function is to transport intravascular, free haemoglobin to its degradation site in the reticulo-endothelial system. Measurement of Haptoglobin may aid in the diagnosis of haemolytic diseases related to the formation of haemoglobin / haptoglobin complexes and certain kidney disease.
