Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone


General
  Clinical Use: To diagnose adrenal and pituitary diseases such as Cushings sydrome, Addisons disease, adrenal and pituitary tumours.
  Availability: FSH: Samples are tested Monday-Friday.
QEII: Samples are tested Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

  Handling Instructions (to laboratory): Blood should be collected into a chilled LAVENDER tube.
The tube must be immersed in an ice bath following collection and transported to laboratory immediately (within 1 hour of collection).

Collection Requirements
  Container: EDTA (LAVENDER),  
  Sample Type: See container
  Minimum Collection Volume: 1mL
  Collection Instructions: Collection preferred between 08:00-09:00am except when requested with a Synacthen test or in an acutely unwell patient.
Collect sample on ice.
If dexamethasone suppression test requested and dexamethasone dose already taken, collect sample for dexamethasone suppression test first and schedule the ACTH in 1 week.

  Processing Instructions: Centrifuge, separate and freeze sample immediately (within 1 hour of collection).
  Minimum Assay Volume: 500uL
  Stability: 30 days frozen
  Transport Instructions (to testing laboratory): Send separated sample frozen on dry ice.
