Sweat Test


General
  Clinical Use: For the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis. Also used to monitor response to therapy.
  Availability: Samples are tested Monday-Friday.

  Handling Instructions (to laboratory): Deliver sample to laboratory immediately following collection.

Sweat Chloride interpretation:
<40 mmol/L: is normal and there is a low probability of CF.
40-60 mmol/L: is intermediate and is suggestive but not diagnostic of CF.
>60 mmol/l: is abnormal and supports the diagnosis of CF.

  Collection Instructions: The collection of sweat requires a specific procedure and bookings are required.

Processing Requirements
  Alternate Containers:
  Processing Instructions: Treat sample as irreplaceable.
Process sample immediately on arrival in laboratory.
The testing department should be contacted to arrange collection of sample from CSRA.

  Transport Instructions (to testing laboratory): Tested on site.
