Clinical Use:
|
The methanol assay is clinically warranted when investigating high anion gap metabolic acidosis, where methanol is a credible explanation for the acute clinical presentation. A high osmolar gap is also usually present. Verified recent access to methanol could also warrant a methanol assay.
Contrary to common misconception Methanol is NOT present in common methylated spirits but it is used in industry, agriculture and in high-performance racing fuels. |
