Leptin


General
  Clinical Use: Leptin is a peptide hormone secreted from adipocytes in response to the amount of fat stored; it plays a key role in regulating energy intake and energy expenditure. Leptin acts through hypothalamic receptors and the neuroendocrine system to reduce appetite.
This test is only available if requested by a paediatric specialist.
  Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a fortnight.

  Minimum Collection Volume: 5mL
  Collection Instructions: Patient must be fasting.
Non-medicare rebateable item. All patients except Public, VA and Pensioners must pay $30.70 upfront.
Refer to Duty Biochemist prior to collection of sample.


Processing Requirements

  Processing Instructions: Centrifuge, separate and freeze sample.
  Minimum Assay Volume: 500uL
  Stability:
  Transport Instructions (to testing laboratory): Send separated sample frozen on dry ice.
