Clinical Use:

The most common cause of a moderately raised red cell porphyrin is chronic disease (infection, inflammation or malignancy). In Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP) the red cell porphyrin is significantly raised. Lead exposure can cause a raised red cell porphyrin. |
