Clinical Use:
|
Because CSF is mainly an ultrafiltrate of plasma, low molecular-weight proteins normally predominate, and the concentration of larger proteins such as IgG is very low. Demonstration of increased intrathecal synthesis of IgG has great importance in the diagnosis of demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), especially multiple sclerosis (MS). |
