Clinical Use:
|
Patients with acute lead poisoning from occupational exposure, petrol sniffing and ingestion have raised lead in their bones and tissues. Chelation with EDTA, penicillamine and other chelating agents is a means of ridding the body of some of the lead. Usually 24 hour collections are arranged pre- and post- chelation. Spot urine lead assays may be done in the case of acute exposure (ie not continuing exposure) to see whether lead had been ingested. |
