Amino Acids


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnosis and monitoring of inherited disorders of amino acid metabolism.
  Availability: Samples are tested Monday-Friday.

  Handling Instructions (to laboratory): Send whole sample chilled within 2 hours of collection.
Send separated sample frozen on dry ice.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Lithium Heparin-PST (GREEN),  
  Sample Type: See container
  Minimum Collection Volume: 1mL Adults; 0.5mL Paediatric
  Collection Instructions: Patient should be fasting, but not required. Please note on request form.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 2 hours of collection, it must be centrifuged, separated and frozen.
Requests for Phenylalanine for PKU monitoring require whole heparinised blood or DBS card.


Processing Requirements
  Alternate Containers:
  Processing Instructions: Centrifuge, separate and freeze sample.
Treat sample as irreplaceable and check with BGU before organising recollection.
Check with BGU before adding this test to a previously collected sample.
  Minimum Assay Volume:
  Stability: 2 hours chilled; 3 months frozen
  Transport Instructions (to testing laboratory): Send separated sample frozen on dry ice.
