Clinical Use:
|
Liver Biopsy Iron is useful to detect the amount of iron overload in liver in haemochromatosis, alcoholic cirrhosis, B-thallasemia major, overload due to transfusion of red cells, dietary overload (in countries who use iron cooking utensils) and rare disorders such as atransferrinaemia and Zellweger Syndrome. Iron overload can be reduced by chelation therapy and phlebotomy. |
