Mercury (Spot Urine)


General
  Clinical Use: Mercury is a non-essential trace element present in human tissue as a result of exposure to environmental and medicinal mercury products. Inorganic mercury is concentrated in seafood as the toxic methyl compound. Acute poisoning is usually from ingestion of inorganic mercury, which has a corrosive effect on the gastrointestinal tract and causes renal tubular damage. Chronic poisoning is from inhalation or ingestion of small amounts.
  Availability: Samples are batched and tested 3 times a week.
