Apolipoprotein E Genotyping (E2)


General
  Clinical Use: Apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotyping is useful in the diagnosis of Type III hyperlipidaemia. The E2 variant in homozygous form is associated with Type III hyperlipidaemia and is characterised by a change in amino acid 158 from arginine to cysteine (R158C).
Please note that E4 status is not reported; this test is inappropriate for Alzheimer's disease.
