Test Entry - Detail

Cholinesterase (Red Cell & Plasma)

General
Clinical Use: The method described here is for investigation of exposure to organophosphate pesticides or carbamate compounds. Measurement of plasma and red cell cholinesterase is useful to confirm exposure to substances that inhibit cholinesterase- organophosphate or carbamate compounds. This may occur as a result of exposure to pesticides or nerve agents. Plasma and red cell cholinesterase activity is usually reduced to <50% with clinical poisoning and <10% in severe cases.
Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a week.
