Flucloxacillin


General
  Clinical Use: Measured in serum to determine whether therapeutic levels have been reached and to avoid toxic levels when large doses (intravenous infusion for severe infection) are given to patients with renal insufficiency.
  Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a week.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Lithium Heparin-PST (GREEN),  
  Sample Type: See container
  Minimum Collection Volume: 1mL
  Collection Instructions: Patients should have been on oral penicillin for at least 24 hours before specimen collection.
For oral administration, collect a peak specimen 1 hour after oral dose or 11.5 hours after oral dose if probenecid has been given. Trough specimens are collected just before the next dose is due to be taken.
