Test Entry - Detail

HIV Drug Resistance Genotyping

General
Clinical Use: During the course of HIV infection the replicating viral genome undergoes constant change. These changes, also known as sequence polymorphisms within drug targets (viral reverse transcriptase, HIV protease, integrase and HIV polymerase) can lead to resistance against anti-retroviral therapies. The sequencing is performed to determine if mutations associated with drug resistance have occurred.
HIV Resistance Genotyping includes HIV Reverse Transcriptase, Integrase and Protease genotyping.
Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a week.
Aliases/Synonyms: HIV Integrase Genotyping,   HIV Protease Genotyping,   HIV Reverse Transcriptase,
  Code: IHGTR
Handling Instructions (to laboratory): Send whole sample ambient within 6 hours of collection.
