Adenovirus PCR


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnostic testing for adenovirus in eye swabs.
Testing for adenovirus on respiratory specimens is performed along with other respiratory viruses - See separate entry: 'Respiratory Virus PCR'.
Testing for adenovirus 40/41 is performed along with other gastrointestinal viruses - See separate entry: 'Enteric PCR'.
Adenovirus quantitative PCR on blood is also available -See separate entry.
Adenovirus PCR is not routinely performed on faeces, rectal swab, urine, genital tract specimens or CSF, but may be performed in certain clinical scenarios. Contact a Clinical Microbiologist for further advice if required.
  Availability: Results usually available within 24-48h of receipt by the testing lab.

  Container: Sterile Container (STERILE),   or,   Sterile PCR Container (STERIPCR),  
  Sample Type: Eye Swab; Flocked Nose/Throat Swab; Flocked Nasopharyngeal Swab; Nasopharyngeal Aspirate; Sputum; BAL; Endotracheal Aspirate
  Minimum Collection Volume:
  Collection Instructions: Swabs in charcoal or other bacterial transport medium are not suitable for PCR testing.
Dedicated sample preferred.

  Minimum Assay Volume: 250uL (Liquid Samples)
