Bordetella pertussis PCR


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnostic testing for pertussis (whooping cough).
If more than 3 weeks have elapsed since symptom onset, serology is also recommended because PCR sensitivity decreases at this time.
Nasopharyngeal specimens are preferred.
  Availability: Testing is performed Monday to Saturday, with results usually available within 48-72h of receipt by the testing lab.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Sterile PCR Container (STERIPCR),  
  Sample Type: Throat swab; Nasopharyngeal Swab; Nasopharyngeal Aspirate; Sputum; Endotracheal Aspirate; BAL
  Minimum Collection Volume:
  Collection Instructions: Swabs in charcoal or other bacterial transport medium are not suitable for PCR testing.
