Test Entry - Detail

Hepatitis A Serology

General
Clinical Use: Diagnostic and immunity testing for hepatitis A virus (HAV). HAV IgG testing will be performed on all requests. HAV IgM testing is performed when specifically requested or history suggests acute hepatitis. Presence of HAV IgG suggests immunity from past infection or vaccination and may also be seen in acute infection. However, HAV IgG may not be detectable following vaccination and HAV IgG testing is not routinely recommended post-vaccination. See the Australian Immunisation Handbook for further information.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
