Hepatitis B Serology


General
  Clinical Use: Screening, diagnostic, and immunity testing for hepatitis B virus (HBV). The following assays are available: HBV surface antigen (HBsAg); quantitative HBV surface antibody (HBsAb); HBV core total antibody (HBcAb); HBV core IgM; HBV e antigen (HBeAg); HBV e antibody (HBeAb); quantitative HBV surface antigen. HBsAg is the primary serological marker for screening and diagnostic testing. HBsAb is the primary marker for immunity testing; levels 10 IU/mL or above correlate with immunity. First time HBsAg positives are re-tested by an alternative assay for confirmation.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
