Clinical Use:
|
Diagnostic testing for hepatitis E virus (HEV). Specimens are screened with HEV IgG immunoassay. Presence of hepatitis E IgG suggests current or past infection. HEV IgG is usually detectable in acute HEV infection by the time of jaundice onset. HEV PCR will be performed on specimens with detectable HEV IgG or when specifically requested. For investigation of suspected hepatitis E in immunocompromised patients, HEV PCR should be requested in addition to IgG. |
