Clinical Use:

PCR testing for alphaviruses (e.g. Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus, chikungunya virus) is of limited utility, and is not routinely performed. Serology is the recommended primary diagnostic test for alphavirus infection. Contact a Clinical Microbiologist for further advice if required.
