Test Entry - Detail

Rubella Serology

General
Clinical Use: Diagnostic and immunity testing for rubella. Rubella IgG testing is performed on all requests and is reported quantitatively in IU/mL. Rubella IgM testing is performed if specifically requested or history suggests acute rubella infection. Presence of rubella IgG suggests past infection or vaccination but may be detectable during acute infection. Detection of rubella IgG at levels of 10 IU/mL or above correlates with immunity. For diagnosis of acute rubella, a throat swab, urine, and EDTA blood should be submitted for rubella PCR testing in additional to serology.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
