Respiratory Virus Serology


General
  Clinical Use: Serological testing for prior exposure to common respiratory viruses. IgG to influenza A, influenza B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza virus, and adenovirus are tested individually on request. When 'respiratory virus serology' is requested, all IgG are tested except adenovirus.

PCR testing of a respiratory tract specimen is recommended for diagnosis of acute respiratory virus infection.

Human metapneumovirus, enterovirus, rhinovirus and coronavirus serology testing is not available at PathWest.
  Availability: Testing is performed weekly, with results usually available within 2 weeks of receipt by the testing lab.
