Test Entry - Detail

Syphilis Serology (CSF)

General
Clinical Use: Diagnostic testing for early or late neurosyphilis.
Syphilis antibody testing on CSF is only indicated if peripheral syphilis serology is positive.
Specimens are screened with Treponema pallidum haemagglutination (TPHA) assay. CSF specimens reactive by TPHA have VDRL performed together with a TPHA titration. Treponema pallidum PCR is also performed when antibody testing is requested.
