Gastric Biopsy for Helicobacter pylori


General
  Clinical Use: Gastric and duodenal biopsies collected from patients are cultured for Helicobacter pylori which is recognised as an important cause of peptic ulcers.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Sterile Container (STERILE),  
  Sample Type: Biopsy
  Minimum Collection Volume: N/A
  Collection Instructions: Collect sample into 0.2mL sterile saline.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 4 hours of collection, it should be collected into H.pylori transport media.
The media should be stored chilled, and then warmed to room temperature prior to collection. The biopsy must be embedded deeply into the agar immediately following collection.
The sample is stable for 48 hours ambient once embedded.
Indicate specimen type, any specific organism investigation required and any relevant clinical history on request form.
