Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (Adult)


General
  Clinical Use: A raised Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT) greater than 2.5% is highly suggestive of chronic harmful alcohol abuse. An indicator of chronic alcohol abuse, raised with chronic alcohol consumption of > 60 - 80 g alcohol/day.
  Availability: Samples are batched and tested fortnightly.

Normal Range : <1.75%
(abstinence)

Intermediate Range : 1.75 to 2.50% (moderate drinkers)

Abnormal Range : >2.50%
(heavy drinkers)

  Minimum Collection Volume: 5mL
  Collection Instructions: Non-medicare rebateable item. All patients except Public, VA and Pensioners must pay $35.55 upfront.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 24 hours of collection, it must be centrifuged, separated and frozen.
