Clinical Use:
|
For the:
1)Diagnosis of renal diseases.
2)Diagnosis and subtyping of neoplasms e.g. central nervous system, soft tissues, and usual or poorly differentiated tumours.
3)Diagnosis of metabolic storage diseases.
4)Identification of structural abnormalities of respiratory cilia in primary ciliary dyskinesia.
5)Diagnosis of rare skin diseases e.g. epidermolysis bullosa.
QEII: The decision to perform Electron Microscopy is made by the reporting histopathologist.
FSH: Electron Microscopy is routinely performed on all renal biopsies submitted to the EM Unit. Other specimens are requested as indicated by the reporting pathologist. |

Immerse specimen in sterile 5ml yellow-top vial (4ml) or white-top jar (>50ml) containing 2.5% glutaraldehyde fixative in phosphate buffer.
Material fixed in formalin is adequate as a transport medium but the sample requires post-fixation in glutaraldehyde. Please indicate the use of formalin fixative on the request form. To obtain glutaraldehyde from PCH AP lab, please call ext 63289. |
