There is no legal requirement to obtain informed parental consent for examination of foetuses under 20 weeks gestation. Please note: KEMH has an internal policy that requires explicit parental consent for examination of any foetus sent to the Department.
If there is doubt as to gestational age, or if this is likely to be in the region of 20 weeks, informed parental consent should be obtained and documentation submitted with the specimen to the laboratory.
If Cytogenetics or Chromosomal Analysis is requested, a separate fresh sample will be required. |
