Clinical Use:
|
For monitoring of patients with HTLV-1 infection. Testing can be performed on blood, CSF and tissue biopsies in patients with positive serology.>br>
HTLV serology is the recommended test for screening and diagnosis.
HTLV viral load testing is not available at PathWest, but may be referred interstate when clinically indicated. Specimens for HTLV viral load require special processing, so all requests for HTLV viral load MUST be discussed with a Clinical Microbiologist prior to collection. If an HTLV viral load request is received without prior discussion, the qualitative HTLV-1 PCR will be performed. A re-collect will need to be arranged if viral load is still required. |
