Test Entry - Detail

Heavy Metals Screen

General
Clinical Use: Cadmium: A highly toxic metal with no known biological function. Toxicity may arise from industries associated with electroplating, engraving, dental amalgams and nickel/cadmium batteries. Mercury: Acute poisoning by inorganic mercury is usually from ingestion, which has a corrosive effect on the gastrointestinal tract and causes renal tubular damage. Chronic poisoning is from inhalation or ingestion of small amounts. Inorganic Arsenic: Acute toxicity may follow accidental ingestion, industrial accidents or suicidal and homicidal acts. Chronic toxicity may follow low dose exposure to contaminated food, water, medications or work environment. Lead: The most common cause of chronic lead poisoning is from occupational exposure to lead from fumes and dust. The duration of occupational exposure before symptoms arise varies from a few weeks to several years.
Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a week.

  Code: OHM
