Clinical Use:

Pathology in cryofibrinogenaemia is thought to be secondary to thrombotic occlusion of medium and small arteries with features of vasculitis, most commonly cutaneous ischaemia including purpura, livedo reticularis, ulceration and necrosis. Cryofibrinogens may be primary ('idiopathic') or more commonly secondary to underlying inflammatory condition such as infection, malignancy or connective tissue disease. Cryofibrinogens may occasionally be seen in normal healthy individuals, usually at low levels. Cryofibrinogens cannot be assesed without a corresponding Cryoglobulin (serum) sample. |

The cryoglobulin test is set up daily and the results are monitored over 7 days. The report will be available 8 days after sample collection. |

Processing Instructions:
|
The testing department should be contacted to arrange collection of sample from CSRA.
If sample has been chilled, it must remain at 4 degrees for duration of testing.
Samples being processed at FSH or QEII must be delivered to the laboratory before 2pm Monday-Friday.
Sample processed outside of FSH and QEII, must be incubated for 2 hours at 37 degrees, then centrifuged (2000g) at 37 degrees for 10 minutes. Serum (minimum 4ml) is separated from the primary tube and forwarded to FSH or QEII in allocated aliquot tubes.
The separated sample can be transported at room temperature. |
