Streptococcus pneumoniae Urinary Antigen Test


General
  Clinical Use: Adjunctive diagnostic testing for invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae infection. Urine is tested for the presence of S. pneumoniae antigen. The test has sensitivity of 70-80% for diagnosis of S. pneumoniae bacteraemia or pneumonia, with a specificity >95%. Bacteriological testing is also recommended (e.g. sputum MC&S, blood cultures).
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
