Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)


General
  Clinical Use: Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is available to all pregnant women to screen for chromosomal conditions.
NIPT sample collection is acceptable from 10 weeks gestation onwards.
PathWest currently assists in sample collection for external NIPT service providers.
NIPT requests are sent to Victorian Clinical Genetic Services which offers an extended screen for conditions across all 23 pairs of chromosomes. Specialist knowledge may be required for specific referral indications.

  Availability: Due to specific collection container requirements, sample collection can be only arranged via Percept NIPT with the specific request form.
Request Form
Testing is completed daily by VCGS with results available 10 days post receipt at reference laboratory.

Reports are issued directly from the external provider to the requesting doctor.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Streck (STRECK),  
  Sample Type: Percept VCGS - MUST use 1 x 9mL cell-free DNA BCT (Streck) tube
  Minimum Collection Volume: 7mL Whole Blood
  Collection Instructions: Collection kits are available from PathWest supply - 6457 2464.
Do not collect prior to public holidays.
Do not use a butterfly set for collection.
No upfront payment is required by the patient. The patient will be charged $475 directly by the provider using details on the request form.
PathWest are unable to collect NIPT samples for Australian Clinical Laboratories (ACL), Laverty (WDP) or Sonic (Clinipath) request forms.
