Parechovirus PCR


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnostic testing for parechovirus.
Suitable specimen types are upper respiratory tract specimens (e.g. throat swab, nasopharyngeal swab), rectal swabs and CSF. Paired throat and rectal swabs are recommended for detection of parechovirus in infants.
  Availability: Testing is performed Monday to Saturday, with results usually available within 48-72h of receipt by the testing lab.

Collection Requirements
  Container: Sterile PCR Container (STERIPCR),  
  Sample Type: Throat Swab; Nasopharyngeal Swab; Nasopharyngeal Aspirate; Rectal Swab; CSF
  Minimum Collection Volume:
  Collection Instructions: Swabs in charcoal or other bacterial transport medium are not suitable for PCR testing.
