Test Entry - Detail

Bordetella pertussis Serology

General
Clinical Use: Diagnostic testing for pertussis. A quantitative pertussis toxin IgG immunoassay is performed. For diagnosis of acute pertussis, a nasopharyngeal swab for B.Pertussis PCR is recommended, together with serology. Acute and convalescent sera may be required to confirm recent infection by demonstrating a significant rise in IgG levels, as levels may be low early in infection. Beyond 3 weeks after symptoms onset, the sensitivity of serology exceeds that of PCR.
Availability: Samples are batched and tested up to 5 times a week depending on number of requests.
