HCG (Quantitative - POCT)


General
  Clinical Use: Quantitative hCG measures the actual amount of hCG present in the blood. It may be used to help diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, to help diagnose and monitor a pregnancy that may be failing, and to monitor a woman after a miscarriage.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.

This hCG assay is only approved for the assessment of pregnancy status:

hCG      >25 IU/L is a Positive pregnancy test
hCG   5 - 25 IU/L is Equivocal - repeat is suggested
hCG       <5 IU/L is a Negative pregnancy test

False positive and negative results can rarely occur due to interfering substances in the patient's blood.
HCG (POCT) results from the Abbott i-STAT point-of-care analyser and laboratory analysers are not directly 
comparable due to method differences.
