Test Entry - Detail

Chlamydophila psittaci Serology

General
Clinical Use: Adjunctive diagnostic testing for Chlamydophila psittaci and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV - caused by C. trachomatis serovars L1-L3), when the diagnosis cannot be confirmed by PCR. Provided acute and convalescent sera are submitted, testing for C. psittaci and C. trachomatis antibodies is performed by microimmunofluorescence (MIF). For diagnosis of acute C. psittaci infection, PCR testing of a respiratory tract specimen is recommended (e.g. throat swab, sputum). For diagnosis of C. trachomatis infection, including LGV, PCR testing of anogenital/mucosal swabs or biopsies is recommended.
Availability: Testing is not available at PathWest but may be referred when clinically indicated.
