Factor XI Assay

General

Clinical Use:

To determine the cause of a prolonged INR or APTT, to identify specific factor deficiencies or inhibitors. Assays for factors VIII, IX, XI, and XII are performed to evaluate a prolonged APTT (with normal INR). Assays for factors II, V, VII, and X are performed to evaluate a prolonged INR(with normal APTT). If both the INR and APTT are prolonged, all factors may be assayed to establish the cause.

If multiple factor studies or additional coagulation tests are requested additional citrate tubes should be collected.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 4 hours of collection, it must be centrifuged, separated and frozen.
