Test Entry - Detail

Detection of Somatic Variants in Cell Free DNA

General
Clinical Use: Some somatic variants, such as EGFR p.T790M and BRAF p.V600E, can be detected in circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA), also known as cell free DNA (cfDNA), which is isolated from a patient blood sample. This is frequently termed 'liquid biopsy' and has the advantage of being relatively easy to obtain compared to tissue biopsy and therefore could be used when a tissue biopsy is not recommended by the clinician.
Please note that these tests can also be carried out on FFPE tissue and cytology specimens such as pleural or ascitic fluid. These specimens should be sent directly to the laboratory in a sterile container.
Please contact the testing laboratory to discuss gene tests available.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
Please contact testing laboratory for urgent requests.
