Faeces - Ova, Cysts & Parasites (OCP)


General
  Clinical Use: Investigation of parasitic causes of diarrhoea and gastritis by microscopy. Enteric PCR for Giardia intestinalis, Cryptosporidium and Entamoeba histolytica will be performed as an adjunct to microscopy.
Investigation of Entamoeba histolytica - if colonic disease is suspected despite failure to demonstrate trophozoites, consult a Clinical Microbiologist. Clinical consultation is required if chronic disease is suspected.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
