Test Entry - Detail

Detection of MGMT Methylation in Glioma

General
Clinical Use: In patients with glioblastoma there is a strong correlation between methylation of MGMT and positive clinical outcome for those treated with alkylating agents (Hegi et al, 2008). Loss of MGMT expression due to methylation occurs in ~40% of GBM and this test is intended to aid clinicians in the selection of glioblastoma cancer patients which are more likely to benefit from treatment with alkylating agents.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
Please contact testing laboratory for urgent requests.
