Test Entry - Detail

MLH1 Promoter Methylation Test for Endometrial and Colon Cancer

General
Clinical Use: This test is part of reflex testing for colorectal and endometrial cancers to determine the likelihood of hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer syndrome (HNPCC) or Lynch Syndrome. Analysis of MLH1 promoter methylation is typically performed after immunohistochemistry to detect loss of expression of mismatch repair genes (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2) and/or microsatellite instability (MSI) molecular testing in order to further stratify sporadic and hereditary cases.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
