Test Entry - Detail

Detection of Somatic Variants in the PDGFRa Gene

General
Clinical Use: Detection of somatic variants in exons 12, 14 and 18 of the PDGFRa (Platelet derived growth factor receptor alpha, also known as PDGFRA) gene in gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) is used to select patients suitable for tyrosine kinase inhibitors (e.g. imatinib, gleevec, avapritinib). Approximately 5-7% GISTs harbour variants in PDGFRa and they are usually mutually exclusive with KIT variants, which are present in around 80% of GISTs.
Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
