Streptococcus pyogenes PCR


General
  Clinical Use: Adjunctive diagnostic testing for invasive group A Strep infection (iGAS).
Specimens should also be sent for MC&S (e.g. blood cultures, tissue/fluid).
S. pyogenes PCR is not performed on throat swabs or other non-sterile specimens. Culture should be performed instead.
  Availability: Samples are tested Monday to Sunday, with results usually available within 24-48h of receipt by the testing laboratory. Contact the laboratory if urgent testing is required.
