RhD Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)


General
  Clinical Use: RHD Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is available to all Rhesus D negative pregnant women from 20 to 32 weeks gestational age. Specimens cannot be accepted outside the gestational age range specified as the test has been validated at PathWest to be most accurate for use during this time-period.
Please note this is a separate test to the non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) that is used to screen for chromosomal abnormalities or other genetic conditions. The two tests are done for different reasons and provide different information.

Collection Requirements
  Container: PAXgene Blood DNA Tube (PAX),  
  Sample Type: Peripheral Blood - MUST use 1 x 10mL BD PAXGENE cell-free DNA collection tube
  Minimum Collection Volume: Tube must be filled
  Collection Instructions: Blood testing must be between 20 and 32 weeks gestational age.
Non PathWest forms can also be accepted.
A butterfly set MUST be used for collection.
NOTE: Order of draw: LAST.
Following collection, gently invert the tube 8 times to ensure preservative is mixed with sample.

Processing Requirements

  Processing Instructions: Please contact Diagnostic Genomics if the sample received has not been handled according to collection instructions.
Samples should not be centrifuged prior to transport or upon receipt however testing can still proceed if this has occurred.
  Minimum Assay Volume: Tube must be filled
  Stability: 7 days ambient
  Transport Instructions (to testing laboratory): Send to laboratory at ambient temperature within 24 hours of collection.
Do not refrigerate or centrifuge.
