21-Hydroxylase Antibody


General
  Clinical Use: Autoantibodies to adrenal steroid 21-hydroxylase enzyme. Autoimmune adrenal disease (low cortisol, high ACTH).
The anti-adrenal cortex antibodies partly or fully block the enzyme converting 17-alpha-hydroxy-progesterone to 11-deoxy-cortisol, the precursor of cortisol. Positive results indicates isolated autoimmune Addison's disease or as part of a polyendocrine syndrome (thyroid disease, premature ovarian failure, diabetes mellitus (Type 1) and vitiligo.
  Availability: Samples are batched and tested once a fortnight.
