Clinical Use:
|
Screening for presence of toxigenic strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae (also C. ulcerans, C. pseudotuberculosis), the cause of respiratory and cutaneous diphtheria.
The preferred specimens are a combined nasopharyngeal and throat swab AND swabs from skin/wound lesions (if present). Ensure C. diphtheriae MC&S or toxigenic Corynebacterium MC&S is clearly indicated on the request form. |

Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
Results are usually available within 2-5 days of receipt by the testing laboratory. |
