Valproic Acid

  Clinical Use: To measure the valproic acid level in the blood, so as to maintain a therapeutic range, and to detect toxic levels.

Collect sample prior to dose as trough level. If patients are on two doses per day, samples should be taken pre morning or pre evening dose.
Record date, time and dosage of last dose on request form.
If sample will not reach laboratory within 24 hours of collection, it must be centrifuged and separated from gel.
