Clinical Use:
|
Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor(SSRI) antidepressant that acts by selectively inhibiting neuronal reuptake of serotonin.
It is used to treat psychiatric disorders including; obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorders. Side effects are milder for fluoxetine than for older antidepressants such as the tricyclics.
Both fluoxetine and its major metabolite, norfluoxetine, are pharmacologically active, and are reported together in this assay. |
